Floods and landslides close roads in Oregon and Washington

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) — Heavy rains in Oregon and Washington state have caused multiple landslides, washouts and road closures.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation reported a landslide on Northwest Thompson Road just before noon Tuesday.

The landslide closed NW Thompson to Skyline Boulevard and NW Miller Road to Bartholomew Drive. PBOT engineers were still working to clear the debris Tuesday afternoon.

In Washington, the Cowlitz County Department of Public Works reported a washout on the 2400 block of Tower Road and a landslide on Stewart Creek Road in Longview on Tuesday afternoon. Both incidents closed roads. Cowlitz County officials have warned of other traffic hazards from fallen trees or flooding.

Oregon and Washington started March with lots of rain, and precipitation is expected to continue Thursday through Saturday, according to the Fox 12 Weather team.
