BREMERTON, Washington – Owen Avrit continued his strong play early in the season as the two Jose islas and Greg Solhaug impressed on their debut to the season and Oregon placed third after the first two rounds of the Husky Invitational played Monday on the 7,115-yard Gold Mountain Olympic course, par 17.

The Ducks totaled 9 under 567 in two rounds. Host Washington led the tournament with 23 under 553, while Boise State was one step ahead of Oregon in second at 566. Oregon State was fourth at 569.

Avrit was tied for 11th at 4 under 140, while Islas and Solhaug were tied at 18e to 2-less than 142.

How did it happen: The Ducks had their best round of the day in the morning with a 282 under 6, Islas led the way with a 68, while Avrit had a 70 and Solhaug, Tom ford and Yuki moriyama all pair shots 72s.

Scores were higher on Monday afternoon, although Avrit turned the tide with his second consecutive 70. The junior from Arroyo Grande, Calif., Had seven birdies and three bogeys on Monday.

Solhaug also had a 70 while Gueant had his second 72 in a row. Gueant was tied for 32sd au pair.

Meanwhile at the Husky Individual Invitational, played concurrently with the Gold Mountain Cascade Course, freshman Greyson Leaching shot straight laps of 68 to maintain the overnight lead at 8 under 136. Leach opened his day with four birdies and 14 starts in the first round, then birdied seven with three bogeys in the second round.

He has a one-shot lead over Washington’s Aiden O’Hagan and three strokes ahead of his teammate Nate stember, who was sixth at 5 under 139 after rounds 69-70. Senior Craig Ronne and first year student Eric Doyle were tied for 11th at 2 under 142.

Notable: Dating back to last season, 8 of Avrit’s last 12 laps have been 70 or better, including the five laps so far in the 2021-22 season… Islas carded seven birdies, to accompany three bogeys, during his first round as a duck… Gueant recovered from a triple bug at the start of the second round to work his way through to par.
