(Netarts, Oregon) – Netarts Bay on Oregon‘s northern coast is a sprawling natural amusement park that’s actually bigger than it looks. Just south of little Oceanside and just a wee bit west of Tillamook, this cavalcade of wonderland is full of recreational opportunities, and there’s a group that loves to brag about them by helping the public learn more. Hence this collection of events organized by Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS (Watershed Estuary Beach and Sea), where you can dive deep into crabbing the bay, drawing the birds of the area and a startling look at the tectonics of the patches along the Oregon and Washington coast. coast.

The first is on October 23 at 10 a.m., at the Schooner restaurant right there on Netarts Bay. Crabbing Netars Bay is on the program, giving you tips and ideas for getting the delicious nugget of seafood on this stretch of the Oregon coast. Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP) and the Friends of Netarts Bay join forces to create this one: a fun Sunday exploring crabs and crabbing.

Jesse Kane from TEP will share his knowledge and experience of harvesting wild foods. You will receive advice on equipment, timing and technique. Next, find out about size and catch limits.

“We’ll even help you learn fun facts about the various decapods in the bay,” WEBS said in a press release.

The whole day ends with a demonstration on cooking and cleaning crabs in the restaurant.

This is an in-person event, not online. You will need to register here.

Wintering Birds of Netarts Bay: A Birding and Drawing Tour operates October 29 at 9:30 a.m.

Renowned Oregon Coast artist Ram Papish takes you up close to the types of birds found here by identifying and then drawing them.

It all starts with a lecture on birds wintering in Netarts Bay, followed by a presentation on drawing birds. You will then practice these drawing techniques with Papish, followed by an outdoor excursion to Netarts Bay for bird watching and drawing in winter (weather dependent). All levels of birding are welcome and some supplies will be provided. You’ll want to see the event page for complete information.

November 5 is when things get a little shaky – in a scary way. Plate Tectonics and Landscapes of the Pacific Northwest is the name of the program, delving into the geological forces that threaten the lives of people living along the Washington Coast and Oregon Coast, as well as inland parts of the States.

There is a lot of beauty here in this region, but it is tied to some deadly aspects. Dr. Bob Lillie tells this “Beauty of the Beast” story by highlighting spectacular scenery in national, state and local parks. By learning to live with the beast of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, we can better appreciate the beauty around us. The event is taking place at 4949 Netarts Hwy W Netarts. It will also include a one to two mile walk around various beach areas to demonstrate Lilie’s talk.
