OSU’s Wayne Tinkle to be inducted into University of Montana Sports Hall of Fame
Current Oregon State Men’s Basketball Head Coach Wayne Tinkle was announced as part of the University of Montana’s Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
It is an honor worthy of Tinkle. While he spent eight seasons with the Grizzlies, leading them to three NCAA tournaments. During his nearly ten-year tenure at college, he racked up a record 158-89 (0.640) and 97-39 (0.713) in the Big Sky Conference. Damian Lillard also played in the Big Sky Conference at Weber State.
“I want to congratulate the 2021 class of Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame inductees and their families,” said MU athletics director Kent Haslem.
“This is an extraordinary class of Hall of Fame members who have had an undeniable impact on the University of Montana both in competition and out of competition. We look forward to celebrating this exceptional group and recognizing their achievements. “
Tinkle was a player in Montana and made All-Big Sky three times. He is currently ranked fourth in rebounds and 10th in points and has been the team’s MVP twice.
As a player and coach, he established himself as a Hall of Fame member in his former school and is rightly recognized for his contributions.
“When I got this call, the hair stood on end on my skin,” Tinkle said. “The University of Montana means so much to my family and I. It was such an important part of our growth as students and athletes. It will always have a big place in our hearts,” said Tinkle.
“It’s an incredible honor and a real privilege. It’s such a rich program, not just in men’s basketball, but really throughout the sports department. So to be entered with incredible athletes is a real pleasure. . I’m not too much for individual awards or accolades, but it will be a proud moment for me personally and for my family. “
2021 has been a good year for Tinkle – reaching Elite 8 with the Beavers and now becoming a Hall of Famer.
