Pac-12, CFP Bowl Screenings: not all experts place Oregon in the CFP
While Oregon is a good bet to be in the top-four when the second college football playoff standings are released on Tuesday, some college football pundits are not convinced the Ducks will make it to the national semifinals.
Four of the seven experts named who released their bowl projections by Monday, November 8 – the day before the CFP rankings were released – predict that Oregon will play in one of the national semi-final matches. But three don’t have the Ducks in the last four, relegating them to the Rose Bowl.
Utah is second behind Oregon in all seven showings, which means the Utes are tied to the Rose Bowl according to four of the seven locations we cited.
Perhaps the most interesting note is that only one of the seven venues has projected Alabama to advance to the college football playoffs.
Cal, Colorado, Stanford and Arizona are the only four Pac-12 teams that shouldn’t be in a bowl by any of the pundits. We wonder if Cal could have been thrown into a bowl had he beaten Arizona on Saturday to improve to 4-5. Instead, the exhausted Golden Bears, who had 24 players (including 10 starters) sidelined because of COVID issues, lost to the Wildcats 10-3 and sit at 3-6, having to sweep their last three games to become bowl eligible.
Here’s how experts see it in the projections released on November 8.
